I have posted anything in a while! Here’s a look at what I saw in Malaysia because today I really missed being there.
Leaving the States
Well, it’s finally here. My trip to the other side of the world starts tomorrow. I’m sitting in my bed unable to sleep due to the excitement that is oozing out of me. I have already talked my quad mates ears off and it’s too late to call any of my family so, I’ll have to clam my nervous with the uneven tappings on a keyboard.
As many of you know I will be going on my first missions trip tomorrow! I can’t express to you all the emotions that I’m feeling right now. Well, I can try. First, I want to say I am eternally grateful to the ones who helped support me financially on this trip! I honestly could not have done this without you! Also, thank you so much for those who have and are continuing to pray for me and the team. It really means a lot to us and pray works, and I believe God will use us in mighty ways these next 10 days. Second, I am so excited it’s not even funny. Okay, maybe a little funny that I haven’t been able to shut up about my trip for the past week. Let’s just say that every professor knows who I am now. This will be my first time leaving the safety of the United States, but I hope it is not my last. God is going to do so much during my time over there, I just know it!
The last emotion that seems to creep in my head very late at night is fear. I’m nervous about the long flight and the culture differences that I will encounter. Yet, most of all I’m scared of what might happen if something should go wrong. I don’t like to think about it because I know that God is always with me, but sometimes I would like to know His great plan. All I do know is God is my pilot in life, I’m just along for the ride. I live for Him, and Him alone. Whatever trial I may come in contact with, He will always be there. I might not understand the reasoning behind it, but God knows the end. His will is perfect, and all I want for my life is to live in that perfect will.
If you are reading this please keep me and the rest of the team in your prayers. Also pray for the people that we will come in contact with. Our moto for the trip is x+1. This means that we might not see any results while we are over there, but a conversation could lead someone one step closer to Christ.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the support you have given! I will defiantly be getting back on here when I return to do an update on what happen. And since I’m bringing three cameras I should have plenty of pictures to show too! I might be more talkative when I get back from the trip so watch out!
Thanks again! I love you all! :)
No Facebook for 50 days?
Well, as you can tell I haven’t been on my Facebook for a couple of days now. Before everyone freaks out I would like to explain myself.
My mission trip is 33 days away and I’m super excited about going! On Monday, 1/31, our group discovered that we only have 40 days left until we leave on our amazing adventure!
As a group we decided that we should fast from something until the end of our trip. This is a way to prepare ourselves for what God has in store for us over seas. For a while I didn’t know what to fast from. Then I finally found something that takes up way too much of my time that I could use to read God’s word more or to get more homework done.
I chose Facebook.
Yes, it has been hard and as I go on with day 5 of no Facebook I know the temptation will just get greater.
If you would like to contact me you can email me at jrlohr@liberty.edu
I will be updating about my trip on here if anyone is interested.
Thanks so much for reading my blog!! So far I am $1,010 short for my trip, if you would like to donate please email me!
THANKS!!
Christmas Party!
Christmas is an important holiday here at Liberty University; with so many activities we can barely study for our finals. The usual events are Christmas convocation and Christmas coffeehouse, but this year a new celebration was added. 90.9 the Light is the campus radio station that provides the students and local area with contemporary Christian music and worship songs. Yet, there have been so many complaints about the rap music that the station seems to play nonstop. I have even found myself complaining about the music selection of the station and would like to see a little variety.
With this in mind, 90.9 had decided to listen to the students and change the music scene. To promote the change they held a Christmas party for the college at Snowflex. They even had a special guest! Relient K preformed songs from their Christmas album and some of their classic songs as well. That was only the beginning.
“We loved coming to Liberty and we can’t wait to come back,” lead singer of Relient K, Matt Thiessen said.
The radio station had several games and prizes to win. Some of the games were the ugliest Christmas sweater, which the guys really got into, a fruitcake eating contest where everyone got a little sick from, and name that Christmas tune. The prizes that could be won included CD’s from popular artist inluding Relient K, TobyMac, and Mercy Me, plus free radio t-shirts, and tickets to upcoming concerts and hockey games. Everyone wanted to win and got really involved in the contest. It was probably one of the best events that Liberty has ever done.
The second biggest highlight of the evening was the announcement about 90.9 changing their style of music. Everyone was excited to hear that more favorable music will be played and that the radio station actually listened to them. The station also promoted their Facebook page mentioning that mutual friends will be the first to know concert information and more chances to win prizes.
I could really tell that the party was a hit. There were around 3,000 students there at one time, and they didn’t all leave after five minutes of being there. Everyone stayed till the very end, which is surprising for Liberty kids. You could also see the positive effect on Facebook, their friends jumped from around 2,000 to over 4,000! I have to admit that I helped that number rise a little.

The next blog that I will be posting is part of my final project for one of my classes. This is not a real event (even though it would be an awesome one).
Sorry if I disappoint anyone. :(
